Grace came to rescue because the puppy mill she lived at was shut down by Animal Welfare. She was kept, with over 30 other shelties, in kennels. Because there were too many dogs in her kennel, fights would happen. Grace's face shows some scarring where she was bitten by other dogs.
While the case against Grace's previous owners was working its way through the court system, Grace was being fostered by a shelter volunteer, Susan. Susan taught Grace the basic things she needed to know about living with people: don't soil your crate, humans are givers of awesome food, how to walk up stairs and walk on a leash. But, Grace needed very special care, because she is a sheltie who is extremely shy - she did not get the socialization that she needed when she was a pup. So, as a result, she is going to need a lot of special care to get her ready to be adopted.
Susan and the Animal Welfare workers turned Grace over to the Kennebec Valley Shetland Sheepdog Rescue when the case was finished and the dogs from the mill were in State custody. Since I had shy dog experience, Grace became my foster dog.
This blog will tell Grace's story from when she entered foster care until she becomes adopted.
